Did you know Southwest Airlines recently unveiled a brand-new facility adjacent to Dallas Love Field Airport? Comprising two buildings and covering more than 800,000 square feet in total, it opened in early April of this year and is part of Southwest’s campus headquarters expansion.
The first building is called “Wings.” It is six stories tall and covers 414,000 square feet. The Wings building is primarily dedicated to office space, housing 2,200 employees and including departments like flight operations and flight-operations training.
The second building is called “LEAD,” which is an acronym for “Leadership Education and Aircrew Development.” Functioning as Southwests’s new pilot training facility, the LEAD building has space for at least 18 flight simulators. Southwest estimates that nearly 800 new pilots will undergo training in this building in the coming year.
How Will This Affect You and Other Travelers?
It sounds like this new expansion takes up a lot of space, doesn’t it? Not to mention the thousands of new people who will be commuting to the airport daily for work…
I can’t predict the future, but I do know this: Dallas Love Field is already stretched pretty thin in terms of available space and parking. With substantially more people traveling to and from the vicinity every day, I can only imagine the congestion and cramping will get worse.
As if parking at DAL wasn’t enough of a headache already!
Do yourself a favor: The next time you’re flying out of DAL, schedule airport taxi service with Top-Notch Taxi – DFW DAL Airport Service. I know all the fastest routes to get you there on time for your flight, and you won’t have to worry about finding a parking spot or waiting for a shuttle.
